This particular segment took us from the Goulds to Bay Bulls, via a beautiful, rocky, steep and occasionally treacherous path.
This section is called the Spout Path due to a unique feature - a "wave driven geyser". This feature can be found about 10 km into the 23 km hike.
Yep, 23 km. Not the best choice, probably, for my first hike of the year, but like I said, we were intrepid. We ploughed through, pausing occasionally to hydrate, take pictures, gasp for air, or take some over-the-counter analgesics for the pain (ok, that last one was just me). Anyway, a week out and I am fully recovered and SO looking forward to my next hike, perhaps this one.
Here are a few more shots from the day (the rest can be found on my Flickr). And yes, it's more beautiful in person. Newfoundland is a place you really need to come and see at one point in your life. Bring your hiking boots, some acetaminophen, a very warm sweater and an intrepid spirit and get out there on the trails - you'll be glad you did!

I would love to do this hike, Congrats for having done this, from the look of the pictures it must have been so worth it. !
you go girl!!
Great Photos Laura! Looks like an adventurous start to the hiking season. If you have a free weekend over the summer, and some vacation cash you should spend a night or two in Trinity Bay. You can take in a play at Rising Tide theatre then go and do the Skerwink hike!
PS: I'm coming to St. John's on July 21 for 5 days.. hopefully you're around this time!
Sara and I are going to Trinity for a day trip in two weekends' time! Definitely doing Skerwink (the website is linked in this post!).
I'll be here on the 21st - be in touch. Need a place to stay?
I saw the link, I'm glad you found it! I'll keep you posted on my trip for sure. I'm going for work some my accomodations are taken care of. But it will certainly be great to catch up!
I am a few days / weeks behind here - my reader is exploding - this was worth the time away, such great pictures, I am heading over to flickr now!
